Created as promotional material for Kuthiraivaal, the two lyric videos draw from the film’s surreal world, using imagery and moments from the film as the basis for two different visual approaches.
Thaalaatu
Thaalaatu takes the form of a lullaby, but within the film it is sung to a child who has died. The video was designed around this contrast, presenting the song as a pop-up bedtime storybook.
Imagery from the film was illustrated and reworked into layered storybook scenes, with the environments and characters unfolding like pages as the song progresses. The video was built in Unity.
Vaazh Vitta Peyar
Vaazh Vitta Peyar follows the main character’s journey through the film. Motifs from the film were exaggerated and combined with original artwork. Using Unity, footage was projected onto constructed 3D environments, allowing characters and spaces to sit somewhere between film, illustration and a virtual set.
